Matthew Shelley

Matthew Shelley has enjoyed a wide-ranging career in journalism and PR. As a well-known writer on business and heritage, and having been Glasgow news editor of The Scotsman and features editor of the Bristol Evening Post, he has an intimate understanding of how the media works. As a PR consultant for high-profile clients in sectors including health and heritage he is skilled at promoting and protecting the interests of clients. Matthew supports clients by writing articles, press releases, web copy and reports, as well as providing media training.

“It’s tough enough getting your message across when times are good, but right now the challenges are immense. Knowing the media, the public sector, and the needs of private enterprise I can help clients raise their profiles by creating focused, compelling and hard-hitting communicates that zero in on the people they need to reach.”

A little about Matthew:

  • Mountain peaks and sea floors – most of his free time is spent either running up mountains or scuba diving. Very different sports, but both feed the same desire to enjoy the natural world at its most spectacular.
  • Passion for the past – Back in 2001 he jumped off the journalistic career ladder to take a PhD in underwater archaeology at the University of Edinburgh. During his studies he had the luck to be able to work on everything from submerged Iron Age farmsteads to sunken medieval castles.
  • Greyhounds and hens – Gus and Grace, two rescued ex-racing greyhounds, are the twin apples of Matthew’s eye. He also has a motley collection of hens which have the run of much of the back garden of his country cottage. For health and safety reasons the hounds are not allowed in the run with the chickens.
