Andy is director of digital transformation at NHS South, Central and West Commissioning Support Unit, which directs digital transformation programmes across Southern England.

The CSU runs one of the most advanced integrated digital care records in the country, Connecting Care, which now covers Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, and sits at the heart of one of the government’s local health and care record exemplar projects.

Andy is also chair of the health and care executive of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, and won the inaugural Digital Health Award in 2018 for his work to establish the Federation for Informatics Professionals, or FEDIP.

Andy has an outstanding delivery record in leading major organisational and technology-enabled change programmes, and remains passionate about the role that digital “can and must play” in the future of the health and care system.

He is a strong believer in the need for more interoperable systems, and in the role that programmes like Connecting Care can play in breaking down the barriers between organisations and services.

He is also a long-standing advocate for the professionalisation of those working in health and care technology, and frequently says that he hopes the leaders of the future will have less “haphazard” career paths than his own.
