Jon Salmon

Highland Marketing, the full service agency for health tech marketing, PR and communications, has appointed Jon Salmon to a new account director role to support its continuing business expansion.

Jon brings a wealth of communications experience from senior corporate communications and public relations roles in publicly-listed international companies, including Yell and Hibu, and within the NHS at a London mental health trust.

During his earlier career in journalism, he had reporting roles on local, health trade and national newspapers, including the Daily Mail and Sunday Express.

Jon will work across a range of Highland Marketing clients in the UK and internationally to devise strategic communications plans and tactical programmes to help raise awareness of technological innovations within patient care, and to assist their market development.

Jon is a highly experienced communications specialist whose initial career was in local, trade and national newspaper journalism before moving into senior corporate communications and public relations roles at FTSE 100 international companies and latterly the NHS.

His experience as a journalist includes working as deputy news editor on Pulse, the news service for GPs; general news reporting roles on the Daily Mail and the Sunday Express; and specialist freelance work for The Sunday Times and The Guardian.

He then moved from “poacher” to “gamekeeper”, helping large household technology and B2B brands promote and protect their reputations. Initially he joined BT’s corporate newsroom as a press officer, then moved to its former division Yell, publisher of Yellow Pages and Yell.com, where he progressed to lead its UK communications function and then drive its parent company’s international corporate and B2B PR activity.

Before joining Highland Marketing, Jon spent three and a half years in a senior communications role in a north London NHS mental health trust.
A little bit about Jon:
  • He was brought up in an NHS household - his father was a GP and his mother a nurse, both trained at Guy’s Hospital. Recently working in an NHS mental health trust, he has seen at first hand the challenges in providing high quality care to service users, and also the deep commitment that motivates clinicians to help others.
  • Jon is a keen runner, regularly competing in a regional cross country league in the Chilterns and occasionally travelling to Wales and Yorkshire to take part in fell races.
  • Away from work, family and running he also unwinds by trying to learn German.
